Star Sonata 2 is a free open world space MMO. Fly around the universe, fight enemies, collect resources and build your own bases.
Alone in space
Similar in appearance and gameplay to recent popular rogue-like games, Star Sonata 2 takes place in a top-down 2D perspective through a vast universe with a charming simplicity. Players start with a basic ship, earning credits and upgrades by battling other ships and completing missions. High level gameplay consists of PVP fights and earning planets and bases. The game has dynamic player influenced features like economies and ownership of galaxies, combining MMO features with combat and exploration. The resulting experience works well, but lacks enough depth to be a truly engaging online title. Environments quickly become tired, combat is too simple and the player's influence feels limited. Some features are hidden behind a paywall, meaning free players have even less of interest. Despite these issues, Star Sonata 2 is not a bad game. Griefing and interacting with other players can be fun in short bursts and the soundtrack fits perfectly.
Star Sonata 2 is an initially interesting mix of elements which falls short of becoming an addictive MMO. Fans of space flight or rogue-like games may find a few hours of enjoyment but regular MMO-style play becomes tiresome. A mixed bag.
